What happens when agriculture becomes dependent on synthetic fertilizers? How does this affect farmers, soil health, and food security in Malawi?
In this webinar, we explore key questions around power and control in Malawi’s agricultural system. We take a closer look at fertilizer dependency, soil health, and the challenges facing farmers on the ground, as well as possibilities for more sustainable and resilient farming practices.
We are joined by Dr Nyondo from Mwapata Institute, who will present key facts about country’s agricultural sector, as well as technical insights on how fertilizers affect soil health.
Edwin Munthali from Farmers Union, who will share firsthand perspectives on the realities facing farmers in Malawi today.
The webinar will conclude with a short panel discussion, opening up for reflection and dialogue on the future of farming in Malawi.
This event is a collaboration between Spire and Point of Progress, and is part of a broader campaign addressing the Norwegian fertilizer company Yara, examining the impacts of synthetic fertilizer production and use.
